Rich & Elaine's Overseas Adventures
Tropical North Queensland
We love our adventures in far north Australia, finding ourselves back again enjoying the winters and exploring this amazingly diverse, friendly special corner of Tropical North Queensland, Australia.

Adventure in far north Australia is very much alive and well. Tropical North Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef which has World Heritage status, stretches 2300km from Bundaberg, north to New Guinea, has the most beautiful and extensive coral reefs in the world.
Here scuba diving is the best way to explore these coral complexes and many scuba diving courses are readily available, snorkelling is an excellent alternative to diving and some of the best coral viewing is within snorkelling range. If these two options are not your idea of an adventure in far north Australia and if 'not getting wet' is your thing, a glass bottom boat can turn up everything from colourful tropical fish to corals, sharks and oysters.
On the many islands of the Great Barrier Reef there are wonderful and exotic resorts catering for every whim. They are well known as great places to relax, swim, kayak, sail or maybe catch some of the many game fish in the warm crystal clear water.
Adventure in far north Australia is exploring the vast wilderness of Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf of Carpentaria where outback tours and camping expeditions are popular; here fishing is a way of life. Visit the small Torres Island and Aboriginal communities and see their arts, crafts and culture.
There is no shortage of adventure in far north Australia, from Townsville to Cooktown lies tropical rainforest which is world heritage listed and recognised as the oldest in the world and sustains many rare animal and plant species. The landscape varies from thick tropical jungle out to the arid western plains; there are thundering waterfalls, massive ant hills, pure white beaches and wide tidal rivers wending their way to the sea.
Cairns, a city of 130,000 is the gateway to adventure in far north Australia and the largest coral reef in the world, it is a lovely relaxed city with an international flavour and a warm tropical climate that invites a relaxed outdoor lifestyle. The variety of international cuisine, local seafood and tropical fruit make dining out a wonderful experience.

The many beaches north of Cairns support a great beach culture where the sea is warm and the beaches are white and sandy. There are excellent tropical resorts, lodges and camping facilities, outdoor restaurants and cafes.
Adventure in far north Australia is exciting, simple and has something for everyone where you can see kangaroos, cassowaries and crocodiles in their natural habitat. Like us you will return again and again.
